Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer has discussed the links to a possible transfer to Premier League table-toppers Liverpool this summer.

The Germany international Marcel Schmelzer who has won 16 caps so far for his country Borussia Dortmund has earned the interest of Brendan Rodgers’ side following another season of consistent performances.

“Of course I look forward to hearing things like that and itᄀᆵs nice when top clubs are interested in you Jose Enrique ” the?26-year-old?told?WAZ.

“But I still have a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2016 and I feel very, very good at BVB.”

Liverpool badly need to strengthen the left-back spot this summer, with Jose Enrique having missed virtually the whole season injured, and Jon Flanagan a natural right-back.

Schmelzer has Champions League experience, and could aid Liverpool’s title push next term if the Reds stump the required fee for his services.

Arsenal are set to make a 13 million bid for Manchester United defensive ace this summer as fears grow over losing two of their own stars.

Arsenal are ready to bid 13 million to sign Chris Smalling from Manchester United this summer Chris Smalling according to the Daily Star.

The versatile centre back Smalling who is also capable of playing at right back David Moyes has long been a target of Arsene Wenger’s.

The wily French manager lost out to old rival Sir Alex Ferguson in the race to sign Smalling four years ago Thomas Vermaelen but has not lost interest in the England international.

Smalling, who is 24 years of age, has failed to impress David Moyes at Man Utd this season in a mixed campaign, being photographed on a night out at 3am and dressing as a suicide bomber for a party, and a fresh start away from Old Trafford could do him well.

The Gunners have kept the second most clean sheets in the Premier League with 14 from their 35 matches, while Manchester United have kept 14 in 34 games, with Moyes looking to sign a centre back himself this summer.

Arsenal may well require a new defensive signing this summer, with question marks over the futures of Bacary Sagna – out of contract in the summer – and Thomas Vermaelen, who has struggled to break up the partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker at the back ever since being dropped in March and fulfilling a supplementary role.

Smalling’s ability to fill in both Sagna’s and Vermaelen’s positions in the Gunners’ squad could come in very handy for Arsenal next season, as well as get his own career back on track.

Arsenal may face competition in the summer from last night’s Champions League semi-final losers Bayern Munich Newcastle for the signature of Loic Remy Mandzukic reports the Mirror.

Pep Guardiola’s side were humiliated by Real Madrid Loic Remy and forward Mario Mandzukic did nothing at all of note.

Loic Remy has enjoyed a pretty strong season with Newcastle on loan from QPR Bayern Munich scoring 13 Premier League goals. His form though, like the rest of the Toon squad, has dramatically tailed off since the turn of the new year, and it seems surprising that one of the best sides in Europe would be interested in a player currently owned by a Championship outfit.

Bayern have already completed a deal for superstar forward Robert Lewandowski, but could need backup for him if Mandzukic is shipped out of the club.

In what could turn out to be a remarkably interesting transfer merry-go-round, Arsenal could secure Mandzukic instead of Remy, enabling Bayern a free run at the French forward, who is rated at roughly 15m.

The Red Devils are keeping tabs on Sagna.

Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna looks certain to leave the club this summer when his contract expires and Manchester United have emerged as surprise candidates to sign the Frenchman Arsenal according to the Daily Star.

Manchester City are known to be interested in the France international Nemanja Vidic along with a host of foreign clubs – including Galatasaray Rio Ferdinand Inter Milan and AS Monaco.

Yet United have now come to the forefront of proceedings as they look to oversee an overhaul of their squad following their worst ever Premier League season.

The sacking of manager David Moyes on Tuesday brought to an end a difficult period for the English champions David Moyes in which they are already certain to finish with their worst ever Premier League points tally and will fail to make the Champions League for the first time since 1995.

With veterans Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra all expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer, defence will be a key area for improvement.

Moyes experimented with Rafael, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at right-back this term, with the Brazilian the only one to truly impress.

However, the experience of Sagna – both domestically and for the French international team – would make the 31-year-old a much better option than the South American.

It’s understood that the defender wants a three-year contract with wages of around 100,000-a-week, something that City are prepared to pay but may seem a little steep for a player of his age.
